The History of Brittany

L’Armorique becomes Brittany

In the 5th and 6th centuries, the Bretons (who were Celts from Great Britain) arrived in successive waves in Armorique, pushed back by barbarian invasions from the north (Picts, Scots, and Anglo-Saxons). It seems that their integration into Amorique was easy and peaceful, as their traditions and culture were similar to those of their hosts.

L’Armorique (once known as little Brittany) was populated by Bretons who came from this mix, Christians, and under authority of local counts. They were integrated into the Franc territory under Clovis, then bit by bit Brittany became more independent, as in 630 a king of the northern part of the territory was named: Domnonée.
